Thick brows are back! Much to the chagrin of many of our clients who have overplucked or experience natural hair loss from aging. As big, full brows come back into style, you’ve undoubtedly heard some terms thrown around. The most popular procedures for filling in brows are microblading and powder brows. Both procedures put colour directly into the dermis layer of your eyebrows, but in different ways for a different result.
There are important distinctions that we will cover below:
Microblading
Probably one of the most popular cosmetic tattooing procedures, microblading is a manual method of implanting colour into the skin. Using the needle, our trained specialist creates realistic simulated hair by mimicking the natural growth pattern of your brow.
Generally, the results heal very soft. But, it’s not always appropriate for every kind of skin type or desired looks. You can expect the results to last between six months and two years. This depends on the internal and external factors that can lead to fading. Touch ups can be expected once a year, sometimes more often on those with a more oily skin type.
Powdered Brows
Though both procedures put colour directly into the dermis layer to create a more full brow, powdered brows utilize a different technique for a very different result. Known as ombre brows or microshading, the needle is used to draw dashes and dots onto the targeted area. Instead of mimicking the growth pattern of the brow hair like microblading. A powdered brow has a stronger healed appearance, while remaining subtle enough to look natural.
Often used to provide depth and a more 3D appearance in the brow, our clients don’t have to worry about having sharpie magic marker eyebrows. Touch ups are necessary for powdered brows as well, but generally last longer than microblading.
With both procedures, we begin by using a series of mathematical measurements that allow us to create the perfect brow shape to compliment your features. We will ask permission to remove any stray hairs outside of these guidelines and then start filling your existing brow in.
A combination of both techniques may be used to allow for the best end result. Don’t worry about deciding that however, let our talented professional decide the best solution for your desired look.
