What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel treatment is designed to resurface damaged or aging skin with specific chemical applied by one of our technicians. Our goal is to help your skin appear smoother and balance the tone of your skin.
There are variations of chemical treatment options available and the best one for you is determined at our initial skincare consultation. The results will vary depending on your skin and your at-home skincare regime.
What to Expect from your Alumier MD Peel
- If you are lactating or pregnant, you are not a candidate for a chemical peel.
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least two weeks prior to treatment.
- Avoid the use of retinoid products and high levels of AHA and BHA products for approximately a week prior to treatment.
The technician will apply the peel selected for your treatment post consultation. Some are only one layer while other require more. Depending on the peel selected, you may feel tingling or warmth over the skin where the peel is applied.
It is important to note that your skin must be overall healthy at the time of the treatment. If the skin is broke, infected, or inflamed, we cannot perform the treatment until the skin barrier is repaired.
Your skin will be very delicate after the peel, so it's important to follow the post-care procedure set out by your technician.
Depending on the treatment you can expect to peel for 3-5 days for light to medium depth peels and 7-10 for deeper peels.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat.
- Only use the products provided by your technician post-peel.
- Do not pick or pull any flaking skin.
- Do not tan or use a tanning bed for at least 14-days post-peel.
- Do not use facial scrubs or mechanical forms of exfoliation for two weeks post-peel.
- Do not apply ice or ice water on the treated area.
- Do not use hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, or excessively hot showers/baths for two days post-peel.
- Do not go swimming for two days post-peel.
- Do not engage in strenuous activity for two days post-peel.
